The guide to the ageing and sexing of common European ducks – ONCFS ageing guide now available in English | Duck Specialist Group

The guide to the ageing and sexing of common European ducks, first published in 2014 by ONCFS (Office National de la Chasse et de la Faune Sauvage ), is now available in English and can be downloaded from the DSG website.

The guide, translated by Matthieu Guillemain and Richard Hearn, covers the ten ducks most commonly observed, ringed and hunted in France (Red-crested Pochard, Common Pochard, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Pintail, Shoveler, Garganey and Wigeon).

The text is supplemented by tens of original photographs of wings and other specific plumage features for each species, with a concise text explaining which specific criteria to consider in each case.

The guide can be downloaded here (note the file is 75 MB) and can also be found in the Resources section of the DSG website.

Thanks to financial support from BASC, printed copies are available to purchase from ONCFS using this form.
